Web Copy for a Web Designer’s Portfolio

My first copywriting project

Kiara, a UX designer and developer based in Bondi Beach, Australia, was already securing clients before launching a website of her own. Having relied on freelancing platforms, she realized it was time to create a dedicated space for herself and her customers. After coming across a writing sample on my profile that emphasized design as more than just aesthetics, she reached out.

The Problem

While Kiara was skilled at design and development, she struggled to clearly communicate the value of her services to potential clients. Although she had a steady flow of projects, she wanted to attract higher-quality clients who truly understood and appreciated her expertise. She knew there were many copywriters available, but when she found one that matched her tone and values, she was sold.

The Process

Crafting copy that effectively communicated the value of her services meant going beyond simple descriptions—it needed to humanize user experience design. Her website had to act as her greatest sales agent, showing not just what she could do but what her clients could achieve with her expertise.

After discussing her vision and gathering examples of what she was looking for, I developed a comprehensive copy deck. This document provided structured, strategic messaging for her website, allowing her to seamlessly integrate compelling content with her design skills.

The Outcome

Initially, the project was about writing website copy that would highlight her design expertise. However, it became much more—it bridged the gap between UX concepts and real business impact, demonstrating how copy can drive design.

As a result, Kiara not only improved her own website but also saw an opportunity to expand her service offerings. She added copywriting alongside design and development, providing her clients with a fully integrated digital experience.

This single project led to a signed contract for ongoing work, allowing me to provide copywriting for her clients as she designed their websites—an outcome that benefitted both her business and mine.
